Wantzel compiler

A programming language built for AI-written code

Strict, fast and verbose. No dependencies, and errors an agent can act on.

One file for Linux x86-64, with the standard library inside. Free to download, nothing to install.

A page of code goes into the Wantzel compiler, a small machine with a gauge and a chimney, and one file comes out
code in, one file out
  1. An agent sends a program to the compiler; within milliseconds a compiled binary or an error message comes back; the agent corrects and the loop repeats
    the loop

    Fast enough to compile after every change

    Your agent writes a program. Within milliseconds Wantzel returns a compiled binary or an error message; the agent corrects, and the loop repeats.

Try it

curl -fsSLo wantzel \
  https://wantzel.com/download/wantzel-linux-x86_64
chmod +x wantzel
cat > hello.wz <<'EOF'
import io;
begin
  io.puts(STDOUT, "Hello from Wantzel\n");
end.
EOF
./wantzel hello.wz hello
./hello

It prints Hello from Wantzel. The compiler is one file with nothing else to install; on our server this program compiled in about 4 ms to a 2 KB executable.

Why Wantzel

AI-generated code can look correct while still containing mistakes. Wantzel rejects invalid programs early and reports the file, line and reason.

  1. A stopwatch that reads 10 milliseconds, with speed lines beside it
    fast feedback

    Fast feedback

    Compiles in milliseconds, so an agent can check after every change.

  2. One single file next to a crossed-out pile of packages: nothing to install
    nothing to install

    No dependencies

    The compiler and generated programs are static binaries. No packages or runtime to install.

  3. A page of code with one line marked by a wavy red line; a note beside it names the file, the line and what was expected
    errors an agent can act on

    Clear errors

    Rejected code reports the file, line and reason.
